Shlaes is a real estate counselor with deep experience in three areas - corporate real estate technology, corporate real estate processes, and valuation.
At present, he leads a small consulting firm based in the Chicago area. Prior to this, he established and led Newmark’s Global Operations Center for GCS Technology, and before that, the consulting arm of Grubb & Ellis.
He draws on experience supporting corporate real estate decisions and creating data sets that are agile, relevant, and integrated. In 35 years in the real estate field, he has advised international banks, utilities, manufacturing companies, railroads, universities and state governments on various real estate matters. Real Estate data and the user experience has been part of this from the start.
He is the creator of Grubb & Ellis’ proprietary Thinking Tool and Portfolio Pulse for portfolio planning, and has published on portfolio planning, real estate strategy, software selection, and the valuation of brownfield properties. He has also taught real estate appraisal at the graduate level and overseas, and has extensive background in real estate-related computer applications.
